Year of Call: 2009 (Gray’s Inn)

Profile:

Prior to being called to the Bar, Simon was awarded a First in Classical Archaeology and Ancient History and a Distinction in the Landscape Archaeology MPhil at St John’s College Oxford.  He trained for the Bar at City University (Graduate Diploma in Law) and City Law School (Bar Vocational Course).  He joins 13 Old Square in 2011 following the completion of his pupillage.  His pupil masters were Stephen Lloyd, Richard Devereux-Cooke and Mark Watson-Gandy.

During his pupillage Simon saw a wide range of the work done in chambers, including provision of opinions and contentious and non-contentious drafting, as well as court advocacy and mediations.  He assisted on two 15-day trials in the High Court, one in respect of a share purchase agreement and the other concerning a claim in proprietary estoppel.  His practice includes property, insolvency, company and procedural matters.  He has appeared widely in the County Courts, in front of the Masters and the Registrars in the High Court and in the Senior Courts Costs Office.  He continues to further develop his practice to cover all of chamber’s chancery and commercial work.

In his spare time, Simon enjoys singing, walking and reading.  He maintains an interest in archaeology and history, particularly of the Classical period.  He sings with the choir of Gray’s Inn Chapel.
